GOT7 is back and we would like to take a breather because of the beautiful aesthetic! The K-pop, earlier this month, announced their summer comeback album which dropped on April 20. The septet dropped the music video of the title track 'Not By The Moon'.
The period aesthetic of the music video is truly enchanting and riveting. It could be interpreted in a way like the members - Jaebeom, Mark, Jackson, JinYoung, YoungJae, BamBam, Yugyeom - seem to play Romeo in this scenario. They pledge their powerful and endless love in the stunningly choreographed video.
The chorus goes, "O swear not by the moon woah / Changing everyday like the moon Woah / Don’t make that vow / The last and everlasting / If the kiss is not the kind."
If one has watched the cinema trailer of the album, the lead track draws inspiration from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet Act 2 when Juliet asks Romeo to "swear not by the moon". "Don’t swear by the moon. The moon is always changing. Every month its position in the sky shifts. I don’t want you to turn out to be that inconsistent too". But we all know what this story ends as Romeo dies tragically.
The lyrics go, "Whenever I feel your warmth / It seeps in silently Into my empty heart, my mind / I fill them up with you / Every day used to be colorless(Every day) / Tomorrow will be dyed with you(Tomorrow) / Just like this, Dye with you / My everything gets revived by you / Will never let you go, I won’t / Don’t let go of this hand you’re holding / It’s meaningless without you."
Interestingly, GOT7 has put a spin on it (KEEP SPINNING, get it?). Instead of using the word 'Die', GoT7 uses the homophone 'Dye' which means their lover has added colour to their lives and that without them, there's no spark left.
The album itself sounds very mature as they have evolved as artists. The music video is a beautiful depiction of their love for the fans.
GOT7 released their mini-album 'Call My Name' back in November 2019 with lead track 'You Calling My Name' and a stunning music video.
